B/E Band Program
The Brandon-Evansville Band program under the direction of Derek Ziemer strive for excellence in rehearsal and performance.
Derek Ziemer, Director of Bands
Originally from St.Cloud Minnesota Derek is a 2014 graduate of the University of Minnesota Morris. Derek's primary instrument is the saxophone with experience in Flute and Clarinet. Derek is an active performer and has been involved with several performing groups such as the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra and the Wadena Community Band. Derek brings his experiences into the classroom to enrich the students' experience in music. Derek is a member of the MBDA (Minnesota Band Directors Association, NAFME (National Association for Music Educators), and MMEA (Minnesota Music Educators Association).
High School Band:
The High School band consists primarily of 9th through 12th graders. The high school band focuses on expanding upon the fundamentals learned during the earlier grades. In high school band, students play music that is more difficult and often considered to be standard repertoire. Students also participate in MSHSL contests and Honor Bands. High school students are also required to play in various Pep Band events. High School Band students are required to sign up for and attend four private lessons a quarter.
Junior High Band:
The Junior High Band consists of 7th and 8th grade students. The music in Junior High Band is more difficult and encourages students to think in a more musical and abstract way. Students have group lessons every week on Mondays. The goal of lessons is to build technique, tone, and musical knowledge.
6th Grade Band:
In 6th grade band, students continue to develop their abilities on their instruments and begin to learn how to play together as an ensemble. 6th grade band students continue with group lessons using the red standard of excellence method book.
Beginning Band:
Beginning Band starts in 5th grade with demonstrations on the instruments and play testing. Students are given the opportunity to try the instrument(s) that they wish to play. Students are then placed on the instrument that they like and fits them best. In Beginning Band we focus on learning the instruments and building a musical foundation that they will build upon while in the program.
